EA Technology, a global leader in electrical asset management and smart grid solutions, has emphasised the critical role of data insights in guiding distribution network investments. For Australia’s Distribution Network Service Providers (DNSPs), leveraging smart network data is the key to extending the lifespan of assets, reducing upgrade costs and improving operational efficiency.
This view was further supported by the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) who have considered for the first time how market rules must evolve for distribution network investments to flow to support the integration of Distributed Energy Resources (DER) such as rooftop solar, home batteries and electric vehicles and the growth of electrification.
Delegates at Australian Energy Week (17–20 June 2025, Melbourne) will hear from EA Technology’s Chief Commercial Officer, Mark Sprawson on how Australian DNSPs can leverage insights from grid-edge intelligence to action their decarbonisation journey, enhancing their operational efficiency, streamlining connection planning, and optimising asset management, just as many DNSPs around the world have already done with the support of EA Technology.
Mark Sprawson said, “Australia has a large overhead distribution network system that is exposed to extreme weather conditions such as rain, storms to bushfires. They contribute towards a big factor on the resilience of a network. With extreme weather conditions becoming more frequent, DNSPs are under significant pressure to allocate extra expenditure to modernise their networks and make them more resilient.”
“Australian DNSPs have recognised the importance of Distributed Energy Resources and the growth of electrification. With proactive maintenance strategies driven by smart data insights, they can avoid being penalised when a disruption of supply occurs.”
In response to these challenges, VisNet® from EA Technology focuses on low voltage (LV) and medium voltage (MV) management, delivering insights from the grid-edge to leading DNSPs around the world and supporting the decarbonisation of the electricity grid. VisNet from EA Technology, today, announced the soft launch of VisNet View (View), a compact, pole-mounted monitoring device that delivers real-time grid-edge intelligence to DNSPs.
Building on the success of the award-winning VisNet® Hub, the View offers a lightweight, visually unobtrusive solution for widespread deployment on Australia’s over one million kilometres of overhead network. Capable of withstanding harsh weather conditions from -30° to 65° Celsius, the View is ideally suited to Australia’s climate-vulnerable and geographically dispersed network.
Some of the key features include:
- A ‘last gasp’ function that transmits final data and triggers an alert if a pole is displaced during an outage
- LTE (4G) connectivity for cloud integration and remote monitoring
- Wireless commissioning, enabling simple, safe, single-person installation from the ground.
Neil Davies, Managing Director of EA Technology Australia said, “VisNet View offers a cost-effective, flexible solution for enhancing grid-edge visibility and resilience and this is exactly what the market and regulators are calling for.”
When paired with VisNet Apps, EA Technology’s suite of solutions for data insights, the View delivers grid edge intelligence for DNSPs to successfully manage, plan and analyse their networks. The View works with DetectPro, a User Interface that enables DNSPs to identify and act on network issues quickly.
Australia will be one of the first global markets to trial the View. A prototype will be showcased at the EA Technology booth (Stand D3) during Australian Energy Week. Commercial availability is scheduled for November 2025. To enquire about the availability for trials, visit https://visnet.tech/en-au/contact-us/.
