Sustainability Victoria has announced the latest recipients of its Circular Economy Innovation Fund, providing almost $1 million to seven projects to stimulate innovation and build capability in the circular economy.
Sustainability Victoria, on behalf of the Victorian Government, is continuing to support the transition to a circular economy where waste and pollution is prevented, minimised or eliminated.
Matt Genever, Sustainability Victoria’s CEO, said the research institutes, industry and businesses that have received funding will support the state’s transition to a circular economy by innovating their business practices to be more circular, such as extending product lifespan through good design and reducing waste.
“Overall, the Circular Economy Innovation Fund has supported 32 projects with a total of $4.3 million in funding. These projects have focussed on boosting circular innovation and identifying, commercialising, and scaling up circular solutions.
“Collectively, it is anticipated that these projects will strengthen the circular capability of over 600 businesses and individuals,” said Mr Genever.
Native plant nursery, Worn Gundidj in Warrnambool is being funded to work with a network of Victorian nurseries and gardens to eliminate waste through tailor-made circular action plans for participating business, while the Federation of Victorian Traditional Owner Corporations will develop a Country Centred Circular Economy business model and framework on Gunaikurnai Country.
Other projects receiving support include circular economy skills development training for shopping centre administration delivered by social enterprise Reground, to help improve their waste management and identify how to keep materials in circulation for longer.
