Eku Energy announced today that it has awarded $500,000 to nine community organisations under its Powering Big Dreams program, a community benefits program supported by the Williamsdale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS).

Powering Big Dreams is the partnership initiative from Eku Energy delivering its global community benefit sharing. Powering Big Dreams creates lasting benefits for local communities by funding initiatives that support education, social connectedness and environmental sustainability in host communities.

Eku Energy is committed to developing a deep understanding of the local communities that host its projects. Through early engagement and conversations during the development phase of a proposed project, the company works in partnership with local community groups to support their long-term goals and aspirations.

The Williamsdale BESS is part of the ACT Government’s Big Canberra Battery project. The 250MW/500MWh project located in Tuggeranong will help the ACT Government achieve its net zero emissions by 2045 and deliver greater energy security and reliability for Canberrans.

Nine not-for-profit organisations that met the Priority Investment Principles of Eku Energy’s Powering Big Dreams initiative received a combined $500,000 in funding to support programs and initiatives that will benefit the ACT community.

The community benefits grants will go towards supporting the natural environment around Williamsdale BESS such as the Gudgenby River, by restoring ecosystems and native vegetation across the ACT, creating greater energy independence for communities and empowering residents through social and support programs for cancer patients, and those who are seeking to make healthier food choices despite financial hardship.

Tom Best, Chief Operating Officer at Eku Energy said, “At Eku Energy, we’re invested in powering the big dreams of local communities and creating lasting benefits for them through initiatives that support education, social connectedness and environmental sustainability. By sharing benefits with Canberrans, we demonstrate how new energy infrastructure can help support community aspirations and contribute to a more prosperous, resilient and sustainable future.”

“We are delighted to have received such a positive response from the ACT community for our grants delivered through Eku Energy’s Powering Big Dreams program. We look forward to seeing the initiatives that the Williamsdale Battery Energy Storage System is supporting through our community partners in the years to come.”
