Horseshoe Bend Road reopened at Thompson Creek

Horseshoe Bend Road is again open to traffic at Thompson Creek Bridge following the completion of extensive repairs.

The road was reopened in both directions early Friday, with the regular speed limit in place.

Major repairs to the road and bridge followed repeat flooding events.

“We acknowledge that this closure has caused significant inconveniences for community members for an extended period, and thank people for their patience,” Mayor Liz Pattison said.

“Damage to the road structure was extensive, and the repair work has factored in likely impacts of future extreme rain events.

“The crossing will still operate as a floodway during peak storm events but new construction elements will help ensure it is more resilient to water damage.”

Repair work has included reinstating the damaged road pavement and safety barriers, with reinforced concrete pavement and scour protection for downstream banks and rock beaching for upstream banks.

The road safety barriers have been modified to avoid impeding flood water flow.

The council acknowledges funding for the repair work from Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements shared between the Australian and Victorian governments.
