The 2025 Lake Mac Sustainable Neighbourhoods Waste to Art Exhibition is now on, displaying thought-provoking and beautiful artworks exploring issues of waste, litter and over consumption. Over 70 artworks, created by community members, artists, groups, and preschool groups from across the region are on display at two locations, Swansea and Charlestown

Waste and plastic pollution has an enormous impact on our local environment. The Waste to Art exhibition confronts us all to reflect on the waste in our lives, and what we can do to transition to a more sustainable future.

Jo Lane, Waste to Art Coordinator, says, “It’s a good reminder to practice the ‘5 Rs’ of waste minimisation: Rethink, Reduce, Reuse, Repair, and Recycle.”

“The exhibition gives us some pause to think about the choices we make and the impact we have. It highlights the value of those materials that would otherwise end up in landfill or in some cases were littering our landscapes and waterways.”

“In addition to the important waste message, the artworks are just so creative and clever! It’s wonderful to see how our artists have transformed ‘rubbish’ into beautiful, fun and functional pieces. The works have been created by preschool groups right through to professional artists. It’s inspiring to see the breadth of community creativity.

Kids love this exhibition as they see familiar objects in new ways” said Jo.
