New Year an ideal time for local creatives to ‘DEVELOP’

Surf Coast Shire Banner 2

Surf Coast creatives are invited to a free workshop to help lay the foundations for a successful arts grant application.

The Getting That Grant online workshop will be held 18 January, in the lead-up to Surf Coast Shire Council’s DEVELOP Artists and Creatives Grants application period in February.

Council is also hosting drop-in sessions in Lorne and Winchelsea (6 February), and Anglesea and Torquay (8 February) so interested people can discuss their DEVELOP grant application and idea with the Project Officer.

Councillor Libby Stapleton encouraged Surf Coast creatives to register for the free workshop in January, to learn from Arts Development Officer Harriet Gaffney.

“Grant applications can often feel daunting, not knowing how to tell the story of your project or what funding bodies are looking for,” Cr Stapleton said.

“Getting That Grant will provide creatives with a confidence boost to apply not only for our upcoming DEVELOP round, but also other funding avenues at state or even national level.”

DEVELOP grants support local creatives to explore new directions, ideas and concepts to advance their practice and/or their careers.

“These grants recognise that new creative output takes considerable time, research, development and effort,” Cr Stapleton said.

“We only have to look at last year’s applications to know that local artists and creatives are overflowing with great ideas, and that often funding is needed to kick-start them. It’s why we’re proud to offer the DEVELOP grants, which support our goal of the Surf Coast Shire being a place to nurture, acknowledge and promote innovation, the creative arts and industries.”

For more information, including how to register for the free workshop, visit surfcoast.vic.gov.au/DEVELOP. Grant applications open 1 February.

Drop-in sessions where people can discuss their application will be held at:

·       Lorne Community Connect: Tuesday 6 February from 1.30pm to 4.30pm

·       Anglesea Art Space: Thursday 8 February from 10am to 1pm
