STREET PERFORMERS TO GRACE THE STREETS OF CENTRAL GEELONG

With the easing of restrictions, buskers, spruikers or also know as street performers, are flocking back into central Geelong to entertain the masses.

Street performance is the act of performing in public places for pleasure and reward.  Most rewards are monetary but other rewards can come in the form of drink, food and even cigarettes.

But being a busker comes also with responsibility. Each artist must have a current busking permit which allows you to perform at various locations in the Geelong Region.  If you wish to perform on someones private land, that is ok but you will still need to seek permission from the owner of that land and in this instance a permit is not required.

There are many different forms of entertainment that street performers do:

  • playing a musical instrument
  • pavement art
  • singing
  • conjuring
  • juggling
  • mime
  • mimicry
  • dancing
  • puppetry
  • performance art
  • recitation

In the Greater City of Geelong, you are only permitted to busk for one hour per day per location. Your initial permit will be issued for one month, and subsequent permits may be issued for extended time if no justifiable complaints were received during the first month.

If you wish to perform in Central Activities Area (CAA) of Geelong you will also need to get permission from our Central Geelong and Waterfront Department prior to submitting this application.
