Know an unsung hero or organisation helping our community to thrive?
Now is the time to celebrate their achievements and contributions by nominating them as a Surf Coast Shire Council Local Legend.
The Local Legends program recognises people or groups of all ages who share positive impact by:
- Helping others and strengthening our community
- Caring for our environment
- Improving inclusion and celebrating diversity, and
- Promoting healthy eating and active living
“These community champions are all around us, making a positive difference, and it is wonderful to celebrate their contributions,” Deputy Mayor Liz Pattison said.
“Our Local Legends program is non-competitive and nominees can be any age. We encourage people to put forward nominations so we can share recognition where it is truly due.”
Nominations for the 2022-23 program are open until 30 October.
Local Legends from 2021-22 included A Cleaner Coast organiser Kate Griffin, Rotarian Maggie Isom, LGBTIQ+ advocate Merrin Wake, Surf Coast Environmental Action Team and Winchelsea Community House manager Wendy Greaves.
People or groups nominated as Local Legends must:
- Live, work, volunteer or go to school in Surf Coast Shire
- Make a positive contribution to the community
- Be willing to be nominated and give their consent
- Agree to be featured as a Local Legend in Council’s communication channels and local media.
