NEW FOOTBRIDGE FOR MOGGS CREEK

Surf Coast Shire Council has announced plans to replace a footbridge in Moggs Creek.

Ron’s Bridge provides a link over the creek between Sutherland and Wendt courts.

The structure is nearing the end of its working life and Council plans to replace it during the 2021 / 22 financial year.

The bridge remains open and safe for use, but now has a load limit of four people at any one time

“Following advice from independent engineers, our long-term plan is to replace the bridge,” Cr Gary Allen said.

“In the interim we will be carrying out some minor work to remedy immediate issues such as trip hazards where possible, and introducing the precautionary load limit.

“We appreciate that the bridge provides a popular link for locals and we are also mindful that it is part of the course for the Surf Coast Century Ultramarathon, which is scheduled for early December if COVID-19 restrictions allow.

“We are in talks with Century organisers to ensure the event complies with the engineers’ report.”

Cr Allen said a timeline for building of the new bridge had not been finalised.

“We are aiming for completion during the 2021 / 22 financial year and hope that the project will not be delayed by difficulty accessing materials, which has affected parts the building sector during the pandemic,” Cr Allen said.

“People will be unable to access to the bridge during the replacement works, but we will minimise disruption and communicate further details once they are known.”

People with questions can contact Council anytime at www.surfcoast.vic.gov.au/request or 8.30am – 5pm Monday to Friday on 5261 0600.
