Ouriet – Pature Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru Brut $110

Ambonnay France 100% Chardonnay

Wine facts:

In 1935, Ambonnay appellation was among the original 12 out of 320 champagne villages.
To receive Grand Cru status.

In the glass:

A glowing pale colour with strong beads streaming from the bottom of the glass.

On the nose:

Yeast intwined with a wild flowers with a sprinkle of minerals thrown in for good measure.
This wine shows rich flavours from the blending of different cuvée (vintages) from the chalky soils of Ambonnay. (the power and yeastiness of this wine have both taken me by surprise and impressed me)

In the mouth:

There is good acidity balanced with a powerful yeasty character, that start away for me separated this champagne from most other champagnes.
The wine finishes with good length with mineral notes in balance with the yeast that is it own balancing act through out this fine Blanc de Blanc.
All though possibly not my preferred style of Champagne, this wine has impressed me with the stand alone difference of this wine.
Making it my choice as a food wine when next planing a meal of roast chicken, roast pork or sweet crustaceans such as a crab or lobster, not prawns.
Purely because it wasn’t the Blanc de Blancs I was expecting.

However I did receive the Blanc de Blancs I paid for, A Grand Cru it is.
