Robbert Slooten

Australia’s energy transition is gathering pace. Renewable energy now supplies more than 40% of electricity across Australia’s major grids, with the Federal Government targeting 82% renewable electricity by 2030 as part of its broader emissions reduction agenda.

Reaching that target will require significant investment, with industry forecasts estimating around 100 TWh of additional clean generation and annual deployment of approximately 7 GW of large-scale renewables and more than 3 GW of rooftop solar throughout the remainder of the decade.

As organisations increasingly look to reduce emissions, manage energy costs and navigate a rapidly changing electricity market, demand for specialist renewable energy procurement and decarbonisation advice continues to grow.

In response, Pangolin Associates has appointed Robbert Slooten as Consulting Director, further strengthening the Pangolin’s renewable energy and decarbonisation advisory capabilities.  A recognised specialist in renewable energy procurement and decarbonisation strategy, Robbert brings extensive experience helping organisations navigate complex energy markets, develop procurement strategies, evaluate commercial options, and negotiate power purchase agreements (PPAs). He has overseen >20TWh of PPA offtake contracting spanning 30+ individual procurement processes. That’s enough to power ~3 million Australian households for a year.

His appointment expands Pangolin’s ability to support organisations through every stage of the energy transition, helping clients secure renewable energy solutions that align with their operational requirements, financial objectives and long-term decarbonisation goals.

“Australia’s energy transition is creating significant opportunities, but it is also becoming increasingly complex for organisations to navigate and uncover genuine value” said Gary Cafe, Principal Consultant at Pangolin Associates. “Businesses need confidence that the renewable energy decisions they make today will deliver long-term environmental and commercial value. Robbert’s experience enhances our ability to provide independent, strategic advice that enables clients to make well-informed transitions to clean energy.”

Pangolin Associates supports organisations across a wide range of renewable energy procurement strategies, including onsite and offsite power purchase agreements (PPAs) both virtual and direct, onsite energy generation system design and partner identification, bundled renewable electricity contracts, unbundled Large-scale Generation Certificates (LGCs), Guarantees of Origin (GOs), and collaborative Group PPAs. Robbert’s appointment reflects Pangolin’s continued investment in helping organisations accelerate decarbonisation while navigating Australia’s evolving energy landscape with confidence.
