RICHMOND TO FIND A NEW CAPTAIN FOR 2022 SEASON

Richmonds three time AFL premiership captain Trent Cotchin has confirmed he has stepped down from the role.

Appointed full-time captain at just 22 years of age following the 2012 season, Cotchin has led the club to three premierships in 2017, 2019, and 2020. He has play 188 or his 268 senior matches as the Tigers skipper.

Cotchin is the Tigers longest serving captain having held the role the 2013 season, and is the only captain to have led the club to three flags, but after nine years he feels it’s the right time to step down.

The club has enjoyed tremendous success under the star midfielders leadership, breaking a 12 year finals drought in his debut season as skipper.

Richmond is a club that has built a really strong leadership culture, more so in the last five years, and there is an excellent selection of candidates to rise and step up in the captaincy role.

Cotchin will play on in 2022 and will remain an incredibly important leader for his team regardless of his title.

The clubs new captain, is yet to be named.
